There is a systemic education problem that is plaguing the global church today. Worldwide, it is estimated that upwards of 85% of evangelical churches are led by pastors that have little to no formal theological training. The situation here in Guatemala is unfortunately reflective of that statistic as many local congregations suffer from Gospel mal-nutrition. Though the Christian faith is far more than theology, it is no less than theology and a proper foundation must be laid to build a healthy and spiritually mature church.
To unsuspecting pastors, the seductive whispers of health and wealth are louder than the profoundly simple proclamations of forgiveness of sins. Only one of these two messages, however, has the power to save and redeem. For those of us who have come to know Jesus and his Gospel, the stakes have never been higher. Souls are on the line and we have been commissioned by our Lord to GO and make disciples.
